Mup Install on Fedora Linux

Installing MUP on Fedora Linux can be a little frustrating unless you know how it's done. The process is really quite simple.

The first thing to do is download the the free MUP RPM file from Arkkra.com. Once that is done you need to make sure your OS is up to date. Open the software app in Fedora and do the update.

After that is done you will need to turn on all the repositories so that you can find the required files that MUP needs but is not included in Fedora.

Next, open your file manager and go to your Download directory. From here, right click with your mouse then select "open in terminal".

Once the terminal window is open you will to enter the command: "sudo yum install map.*" (without the quotation marks) to extract the RPM and add the required dependencies.

When prompted, enter you password and YUM will search for the needed dependencies. When they are found you will be prompted to install them enter "y" and continue. You may have to do this a couple of times.

Once YUM is finished MUP will be installed and the icon added to your applications.

The last thing to install Timidity and update your MUP configuration.

With your terminal window still open type timidity at the prompt. When prompted to install type Y to accept.

Finally it is time to start MUP and update its configuration. Go to you applications and click on the Mupmate icon and Mup will start. in the Mupmate window, click on Config. then File Locations. In the File Location window, make the following changes.

You can change the MUP File Locations if you want. I had made a sub directory in the Documents directory named "Hymns-Working" Next change the Postscript Viewer path from "gv" to "evince" Lastly, change the midi player path to /usr/bin/timidity.

If all goes well you should be up and running with the best music publishing program around!

And last of all, thanks to Bill and John at Arkkra.com for freely giving this great software to the world!
