The Rock That Is Higher Than I
by Joseph W. Burgess
When I'm footsore and weary on life's dusty way,
And the hope springs are fast running dry,
Then help me, dear savior, for safety to flee,
To the Rock that is higher than I.
When the joy rays of heaven shine into my soul,
And I feel that my Savior is nigh;
May my heart overflowing with thankfulness be,
For this Rock that is higher than I.
When the powers of darkness encompass me round,
And about me the fiery darts fly;
No harm can befall if I take for my shield,
The Rock that is higher than I.
When down to the brink of death's river I come,
And its dark billows roll mountain high,
My pilot and guide through this trial shall be,
The Rock that is higher than I.
To the summer bright land where the angels abide
I shall go in the sweet bye and bye;
Then my earth weary soul will confidingly rest
On this Rock that is higher than I.
Oh, the Rock, that is higher than I
To its refuge the weary ones fly,
There safe in the shelter of Christ I will hide,
In the Rock that is higher than I.
